The project involved English and Mandarin literacy teacher candidates in Hong Kong as a preparation for the SSHRC IG project that will connect youth in Hong Kong and Canada for bilingual digital storytelling. The pre-service teacher participants/co-researchers interacted synchronously and asynchronously via the online platform of Teams to collectively explore digital pedagogical designs that respond to diversity, educational inequity, and unprecedented education disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project addresses two of SSHRC’s major future challenge areas: 1) harnessing digital technologies and 2) strengthening Canada’s global connectivity through a close examination of online, cross-border teacher education projects designed to nurture preservice teachers’ online education designs that promote educational equity and global connectivity.
